ตัวเลขภาษาอังกฤษ หลักหน่วยถึงหลักล้าน

การสื่อสารเรื่องตัวเลขเป็นสิ่งที่ขาดไม่ได้เลยในชีวิตประจำวัน สำหรับใครที่ยังสื่อสารเรื่องตัวเลขเป็นภาษาอังกฤษไม่ค่อยได้ เพราะยังไม่แม่นศัพท์หรือยังไม่รู้วิธีการอ่าน ชิววี่ก็ได้รวบรวมข้อมูลมาให้ในบทความนี้แล้ว

British English นิยมใช้ and ระหว่างหลักร้อยและหลักสิบ/หน่วย
แต่ American English จะนิยมละ and

ตัวเลขหลักพัน
1,000 – One thousand
1,001 – One thousand (and) one
1,045 – One thousand (and) forty-five
1,645 – One thousand six hundred (and) forty-five

ตัวเลขหลักหมื่น
10,000 – Ten thousand
10,001 – Ten thousand (and) one
10,045 – Ten thousand (and) forty-five
10,645 – Ten thousand six hundred (and) forty-five
28,645 – Twenty-eight thousand six hundred (and) forty-five

ตัวเลขหลักแสนขึ้นไป
100,000 – One hundred thousand (แสน)
1,000,000 – One million (ล้าน)
10,000,000 – Ten million (สิบล้าน)
100,000,000 – One hundred million (ร้อยล้าน)
1,000,000,000 – One billion* (พันล้าน)
1,000,000,000,000 – One trillion* (ล้านล้าน)

*สมัยก่อน British English จะถือว่า billion คือล้านล้าน และ trillion คือล้านล้านล้าน แต่ในระยะหลังได้เปลี่ยนมาใช้แบบเดียวกับ American English แล้ว ซึ่งก็คือพันล้านสำหรับ billion และล้านล้านสำหรับ trillion นั่นเอง

เลขทศนิยม

เลขทศนิยมให้อ่านจุดว่า point และอ่านตัวเลขหลังจุดทีละตัว
0.1 – Zero point one หรือ Point one
0.25 – Zero point two five หรือ Point two five
8.35 – Eight point three five

เลขเศษส่วน

เลขส่วนต้องอ่านโดยใช้เลขลำดับ ยกเว้นเลข 2 จะอ่านว่า half ส่วนเลข 4 จะอ่านว่า quarter หรือ fourth ก็ได้

เศษเป็นหนึ่ง อ่านเศษว่า one หรือ a ก็ได้
1/2 – One half หรือ A half
1/3 – One third หรือ A third
1/4 – One quarter/fourth หรือ A quarter/fourth
1/5 – One fifth หรือ A fifth
1/10 – One tenth หรือ A tenth

ถ้าเศษมากกว่าหนึ่ง ต้องเติม s ที่ตัวหลัง
2/3 – Two thirds
3/4 – Three quarters หรือ Three fourths
9/10 – Nine tenths
5/2 – Five halves
15/7 – Fifteen sevenths

ถ้ามีจำนวนเต็ม ให้คั่นจำนวนเต็มกับเศษส่วนด้วย and
1 1/2 – One and a half
3 2/5 – Three and two fifths

เป็นไงบ้างครับสำหรับการอ่านตัวเลขในภาษาอังกฤษ พยายามฝึกอ่านฝึกใช้บ่อยๆนะครับ จะได้ใช้ได้คล่องและแม่นยำมากขึ้น
